How to Show Up At Work Hungover After Thirsty Thursday

It happened, you thought you’d be A-OK Friday morning, but now you’re here- and you feel like CRAP. Worse than you could have ever imagined. Here’s a step-by-step guide to how you need to proceed to survive your Friday work day.

What You Should Have Done to Prevent This

Hindsight is always 20/20. You don’t want to hear this, but you should have hydrated majorly before even going out. You never know when your 1-2 drink causal evening will turn into 5-6 drinks, plus shots, with no food or water in sight. Thirsty Thursday got majorly derailed and now you’re suffering from the consequences.

What You Need to Do Now

1. Make It to Work On Time with Your Hangover Essentials

If you managed to wake up at a decent time, you’re off to a great start. Making it to work on time will keep eyes off you. Before you run out the door grab anything and everything you can to help you while you try and crawl out of this hellacious hangover. We are talking about water, food, tums, ibuprofen, vitamins, something with electrolytes, and maybe even some makeup and other beauty products if you want to spruce up a little more in the bathroom at work.

2. Plan Your Day Accordingly

Some have more flexibility than others when it comes to their day. If possible, avoid others and just try and get done the most basic tasks possible. It’s Friday, are people really even working?

Keep in mind: Sometimes you don’t feel as bad immediately upon waking up because the adrenaline of rushing to get to work is distracting you from how badly you really feel. Once you settle in at your desk, it’s only going to feel worse. That’s why you made sure to bring as much stuff with you from home as possible.

3. Fake Sick Realistically Without Letting Others Know You’re Hungover AF

If it’s so bad that you really just can’t hide it and others start to notice, don’t lie and say you’re fine. That screams…guilty! Stick to your worst symptom and go with that. That’s probably either tummy issues, or migraine. Don’t say both, people might start to connect the dots. This might beg the question, “Why did they come in today if they were sick?”. If you could have easily stayed home, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. To save your butt, add something about how it all of a sudden hit you.

What Are You Gonna Do Now?

Assess how you feel and if you feel like your next move might just be throwing up in one of those little desk trash cans… consider going home. The embarrassment of doing that will just not be worth it. Kudos to you if you actually managed to feel better, you are stronger than most! Take this day as a lesson learned. Life’s a dance (we throw up, and then) we learn as we go.
